Pattern Spot has a free clamshell template you can download. You can use this template to create a turned edge clamshell applique which finishes at 4†wide and tall. The template is a PDF and was designed by a quilt designer. The template has a 1/4″ margin around the edges as well.

Cut the fabric 1/4 inch larger than the paper template. Place the template on the wrong side of th e fabric. Baste the top curved edge, using long basting stitch. Or you can just use fabric glue instead of basting. Here I preferred basting. Press the edge over with iron. Make sure that there are no points on the curve.
